Price and Cost in WEB - Understanding Types of WEB Users

We occasionally receive questions like:

  • "Why is my customer seeing the cost of the window in WEB, instead of the price?"
  • "Why are the cost and price the same on this quote?"

Often, these questions come from misunderstanding the design of FeneVision WEB and what the different users/accounts represent. WEB was designed to be a quoting tool for dealers to create quotes for their customers, then upload those to the manufacturer as orders. 

  • The price in WEB is the amount that the dealer's customer is supposed to pay to the dealer.
  • The cost in WEB is the amount the dealer is supposed to pay to the manufacturer.

These are the types of Web users/accounts:

  • Manufacturer - This is our FeneVision customer who is hosting FeneVision WEB to sell their manufactured products.
  • Dealer - This is the customer of the Manufacturer, purchasing products from them to sell to their customers.
  • Contractor - This is the customer of the Dealer. They purchase products from the Dealer and usually do not have a login for WEB, unless the Manufacturer has purchased Contractor Mode for WEB.

Example:

  1. Window Maker Inc. is a manufacturer using FeneVision WEB to sell their products.
  2. Window Distributor Inc. is a dealer buying windows from Window Maker Inc. They have an account in WEB. They log in to create quotes and upload them to Window Maker Inc. The "price" on the quotes will be what Window Distributor Inc. is charging to their customers. The "cost" on their quotes will be what Window Distributor Inc. is paying to Window Maker Inc.
  3. Window Installer Inc. is a contractor buying the windows from Window Distributor Inc. They do not have a WEB account, they just receive an invoice from Window Distributor Inc. , pay them, and receive their windows.

 

  • Window Distributor Inc. creates a quote in WEB with a price of $120 and a cost of $80. They upload their quote from WEB and pay $80 to Window Maker Inc.
  • They receive their window when it is completed, and sell it to Window Installer Inc. They receive $120 from Window Installer Inc. for the order.
