We recommend against deleting and renaming parts in FeneVision, because there is usually historical data tied to the part number. Historical data could be old orders, purchase orders, inventory transactions and other items. If you are trying to delete or rename a part, and FeneVision displays a warning or error that it cannot do so, then it is due to historical data.
You are likely to encounter problems in the below scenarios after deleting or renaming parts:
- When copying an old order with that part to a new order.
- When creating a Service order involving that part.
- When creating an RMA involving that part.
- When viewing old order information in BI. For example, when you are looking for cut sizes in BI for that part.
- When viewing past invoices and entering credits concerning that part.
- Sales and costing reports can become inaccurate.
- When viewing past purchase orders and receipts.
Instead of deleting the part, we recommend making it unavailable to users:
- Remove "Can be Ordered" from the part in Part Setup and remove the part from product and pricing categories so that it cannot be ordered and priced.
- Remove the part from an inventory category, so it does not clutter your Inventory Setup views, cycle counts, etc.
- Remove the part from a vendor category, so it is not available in purchasing.
- In Vendor Setup on the Parts tab, check the Inactive column checkbox so that the part can no longer be purchased.
- Move the part into a category named something like "OBSOLETE", so the part does not clutter your category assignment screen.
