Multiple Required Dates
Splitting One Order Into Multiple Child Shipments
Product: FeneVision CORE Module: Order Entry Audience: Order Entry Users
Overview
Multiple Required Dates allows a single order to contain line items destined for different ship dates. FeneVision creates numbered child orders (e.g. 1000L1, 1000L2) from the parent order, each carrying the line items and quantities assigned to that shipment date. This eliminates the need to manually split large projects across several separate orders.
How It Works
A parent order is created as a Quote or Invoice Only type. Each line item can have its quantity split across multiple required dates using the Multiple Shipments dialog. Child orders are automatically generated with a separator and sequence number appended to the parent order number (configurable—e.g. 'L' produces 1000L1, 1000L2). Each child order carries only the line items and quantities relevant to its shipment date. Once a child order is partially scheduled, the unscheduled balance can be moved, but the total quantity for that line item cannot be changed.
⚠ Multiple Required Date functionality must be enabled by a setup parameter. Contact FeneTech to activate it.
Step by Step
- Step 1: In Order Entry, create a new order and set the type to Quote or Invoice Only.
- Step 2: Add line items to the order as normal.
- Step 3: To split a line item, double-click the Quantity cell, or right-click the row header and choose Multiple Shipments.
- Step 4: In the Multiple Shipments dialog, adjust the quantity and set the Required Date for each shipment portion.
- Step 5: Click OK. The quantity cell now appears as a hyperlink indicating multiple shipments are defined.
- Step 6: Repeat Steps 3–5 for each line item that needs splitting.
- Step 7: To adjust shipping details per child order, go to the Shipping tab and select the required date from the drop-down.
Key Rules / Things to Know
- The order must be a Quote or Invoice Only type—standard Order type is not supported.
- Child order numbers are auto-generated using the parent number plus a configurable separator and sequence (e.g. 1000L1).
- The word {Multiple} appears beside the order status, Required Date, and Ship To fields on a parent order.
- Blocks (holds) placed on the parent order propagate to all child orders; blocks placed on a child order do not affect the parent.
- Copying a Multiple Required Date order that has past plan or required dates will delete those multiple required dates from the copy.
- Once a line item is partially scheduled, its total quantity cannot be changed.
Tips
- Review child orders separately: Each child order has its own status and scheduling view—check each one individually in Order Entry.
- Use for phased projects: Ideal for construction projects where different window sizes or products are needed on different floors or phases.
- Clear holds before scheduling: Ensure all child order holds are cleared before attempting to release to production.
