Resequencing Line Items Without Re-Entering Them

Overview
Move Items lets you change the sequence of line items in the Order Entry line-item grid without deleting and re-entering them. Correct sequencing ensures that order acknowledgements, picking lists, and production schedules display items in the intended logical or physical order—for example, from left to right across a building elevation or from bottom floor to top floor.
How It Works
There are two ways to resequence line items in Order Entry. You can use the up and down arrow buttons in the line-item toolbar to move the selected item one position at a time. Alternatively, you can right-click on a line item's row header to access the right-click context menu, which provides a Move Items option for greater flexibility—particularly useful when moving an item many positions.
Step by Step
- Step 1: Open the order in Order Entry and navigate to the line-item grid.
- Step 2: Select the line item you want to resequence by clicking its row.
- Step 3: Method A – Arrow buttons: Click the up arrow or down arrow in the line-item toolbar to move the item one position at a time.
- Step 4: Method B – Right-click menu: Right-click on the line item's row header and select Move Items from the context menu.
- Step 5: Continue moving until the item is in the desired position.
- Step 6: Save the order to preserve the new sequence.
Key Rules / Things to Know
- Moving items only changes the display sequence—it does not alter any part numbers, options, dimensions, or pricing.
- The new sequence is preserved when you save the order.
- Resequencing is available for any line item that can be edited—items that are locked (e.g. already scheduled) may not be movable.
- Order acknowledgements and picking lists will reflect the updated sequence after saving.
